Personal Development
Personal Development Overview
Our personal development programme has been designed to develop each of our school drivers so that Personal Development extends across the taught curriculum and through wider, well-chosen opportunities.
Leaders have mapped out a Personal Development Journey for a Flanshaw pupil ensuring that ensures that pupils are given meaningful opportunities to develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. Leaders are passionate that during their time at Flanshaw, pupils will experience and achieve the following non-negotiables:
-Learn how to play 2 instruments alongside their peers
-Watch a show at Wakefield theatre
-Visit the Hepworth Art Gallery
-Visit different places of worship to reinforce RE learning
-Appreciate local areas of outstanding natural beauty that are built into curriculum areas.
-Regular exposure to the ‘world of work’ to inspire pupils to consider aspirational professions.
Leaders are committed to an inclusive personal development programme. Adaptations to educational visits and school based workshops are put in place so that all pupils can develop their cultural capital. These adaptations include:
-Increased staffing so that pupils are supervised and supported effectively.
-Careful consideration of the venues so that inclusive venues are chosen.
-Parental involvement when all stakeholders will benefit from parental expertise.
-Support from the SENCO and senior leaders both in terms of planning and attendance.
