Year 1 - D.T Overview

When your child reaches Year One they will study D.T in three blocks, these are as follows:

Term one: Your child will study windmills, they will look at their structures and what is used to strengthen them as well as their features. They will design, make and evaluate their own windmill selecting suitable materials and structures. 

Term Two - Your child will make a moving story book, they will look at their mechanism and test whether it is strong and stable, altering if it isn't. They will design, make and evaluate their own moving storybook selecting suitable materials

Term Three - Your child will make smoothies, focusing on healthy foods. As this is a food block, they will be taught how to cut food and peel food safely. They will understand what fruits and vegetables are, the differences of them and where abouts they grow. During this block your child will design, make and evaluate a smoothie.
