Year 2 - DT Overview

When your child reaches year 2 they will study D.T across three blocks of work. Those blocks are as follows:

Term One - Your child will design, make and evaluate a vehicle. They will look at a variety of different vehicles and their uses. The children will then draw their own vehicle and think about the resources they would need in order to construct it. They have to think about how to make the wheels move. Finally, the children will use a variety of resources to create their vehicles with moving wheels.

Term Two - Your child will study a 'Healthy Lunchbox' and then will go on to design, make and evaluate a healthy lunch. During this block they will learn about nutrition, look at a 'real life' problem and then try to solve it through their design. As this is a food block they will be building upon skills such as cutting, spreading and assembling. 

Term Three - Your child will design, make and evaluate their own glove puppet. They will be given a 'real life' problem such as Flanshaw Nursery is running out of puppets, can we help them? In this block children will build on their sewing skills learning simple stitches and how to embellish their puppet.
