Multiplication
At the start of Year 5 children should be able to:
- recall all the times table facts up to 12 x 12 within 5 seconds
- multiply numbers with up to 3 digits by 1 digit, using written column methods
- estimate the answer to a calculation and use inverse operations to check answers
- solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value, and more complex multiplication.
During year 5 children will develop:
- multiply numbers up to 4 digits by 1 OR 2 digits.
Continuing to learn Times Table Facts:
Children in Year 4 completed the National Government Times Table Assessment Test. This involved 25 random questions up to 12 x 12. Children who passed or failed the analysis will continue to develop, learn and recite. This can be practised further at home using TTR and other resources. (Speak to your class teacher for advice)
