A key is a set of questions about the characteristics of living things.

You can use a key to identify a living thing or decide which group it belongs to by answering the questions. When you answer one question, it either branches off to another question or identifies the organism.

Choose 4 or 5 animals or plants. Ask questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no until you have separated each one, like the diagram above.
