Changing Materials
Our main aims this half term are:
- Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties.
- Know that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution.
- Give reasons for the particular uses of everyday materials.
- Can they describe changes using scientific words? (see list of words below)
- Explain that some changes result in the formation of new materials
- Can they use the terms ‘reversible’ and ‘irreversible’?
We have learnt that irreversible changes are when a chemical reaction occurs and a new material is created. We investigated with milk, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to see what would happen.

This week we explored how to separate materials using a variety of equipment.
