Free School Meals During Closure

Free Packed Lunches

All families who have applied for and are eligible for free school meals under the Pupil Premium scheme are entitled to be provided with a lunch from school during the enforced closure. Please note that school meals will continue to be provided throughout the holidays, with the exception of Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday when the kitchen is closed. After the holidays, we will be looking to move towards using the government voucher scheme so you are provided with shopping vouchers instead of a packed lunch from school every day.

Voucher Scheme

We will be starting this straight after the holidays from Monday 20th April 2020. However, if you have not already replied to the school text messages, we now need your email address urgently in order to set up your claim for vouchers. This can be the same email you use when applying for benefits/ tax credits. Please email Mrs Hume at school, including your child’s name at: reception@flanshawjin.co.uk by Wednesday 8th April at the very latest.

We will issue further instructions on how to access your vouchers once we have set the accounts up (and worked it all out) during the Easter holidays. If you have any queries in the meantime, please email school on the above email address.

Food Parcels

We are also working closely with our Magic Breakfast partners to get food parcels with basic staples such as bagels, beans and breakfast cereals for our vulnerable families. We will be in touch regarding this when we take our first deliveries and see how many parcels we can produce.

Food to Support Families

If you are concerned about food in general during the closure there are several options available to help families in our community: St George’s Church, Lupset; St Catherine’s, Belle Vue; The Real Junk Food project, Denby Dale Road; Elim Community Church at the Denhale Arc

Be Aware of Scam Emails

We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following: ‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’.

We can confirm that this is a scam email and is not official. We will never ask for your bank details like this and urge parents - please do not respond, and delete it immediately.
